Volunteering at NJFFB

There are many ways in which a person may volunteer for the NJFFB. A volunteer may choose to help with special events, fund-raising projects, specialized technology projects or with special mailings. Gardening and landscaping also are always an area of need.

If you enjoy working with people in a classroom setting, you may choose to work with students who attend the NJFFB program. The 13-week Health & Wellness program includes volunteers in many of our classrooms, assisting students and staff. The Health & Wellness program offers volunteer opportunities in the areas of Fitness, Music, Nutrition, Art. The program runs in Ridgewood on Mondays, Denville on Thursdays and Montclair on Fridays from 9:30am-3:30pm. If you are available during these hours, we welcome volunteers to assist our certified staff.

Sensitivity training is required by all prospective volunteers who choose to volunteer in the classroom setting. Sensitivity training is a 1-hour training session; during this training you will learn how to communicate comfortably with a person who is blind or visually impaired and how to properly guide them using the human guide technique. A prospective volunteer would attend one of these trainings, which are scheduled throughout the year at our Denville facility.
