NJ Foundation for the Blind is available to train your staff with the appropriate skills and techniques to work with adults who are blind or visually impaired.
Basic training sessions are 3 hours and are provided by our highly qualified and credentialed staff.
Participants will:
1.Gain a general knowledge of the 4 major eye conditions and how a person’s vision and functioning are affected by each.
2.Gain a general knowledge of adaptations to assist people who are blind and visually impaired.
3.Learn basic orientation and mobility skills to assist someone who is blind or visually impaired.
4.Learn strategies to promote independence for people who are blind and visually impaired.
5.Gain knowledge of how to adapt recreation activities for people who are blind or visually impaired.
Basic training is valuable for direct service staff including nurses, social workers, recreation therapists, occupational therapists, physical therapists, and nursing aids.
Quarterly training sessions are available on NJFFB campus. Please call to register. Our staff is also available to provide training at your site. Additional individualized training is available upon request.
